Sounds pretty sweet from outside. From inside I didn't notice the sweet soundingness as much.
The MKIV sounds fasterer though from what I've read. Is it true there is the potential for it to not be much faster than a GTI b/c of weight? I feel like I read that in one of the major mags. If so, FTL!

This R32 is supposedly equipped with the new, lighter Haldex AWD system. Still, this thing is too heavy.
Let's see: R32 --> 3547 lbs. , 250 hp : 14.2 lbs/hp GTI --> 3100 lbs. , 200 hp : 15.5 lbs/hp R32 starts at $32,990 GTI starts at $22,730 $10,000 for 50 hp on a heavier car doesn't sound like a bargain. Yes, the R32 is AWD, but the GTI can be just as fast without spending $10K extra. Also, I've seen what R32s can do in an auto-x, and it isn't pretty. They understeer A LOT. The GTI is more nimble, agile, and composed. And at the $30K+ price range, it's competing with cars like the STI and the Evo. Hell, even the regular WRX or a Mazdaspeed 3 will eat its lunch. BTW, the new WRX weighs in at 3142 lbs.

Ouch, that kinda killed my appetite for an R32. Considering how easy you can tune than 2.0T to well over 250 HP, it makes the comparison even more revealing. Add a Quaife with the money you save and bam! But, exclusivity is worth something.

Wow the new R32 weighs as much as my car. Well pre-accident anyway, it's potentially lighter now. I left some pieces on the road.
![]() Good research Enano. Thats about what I read. They basically questioned whether or not it was worth the extra $10K considering the power/weight ratio.

VW really blew it with the new .:R. Now, if they had gone with the 3.6 out of the Passat it might be a different story. Wonder if they'll throw the turbo 5 out of the TT-RS into the Golf?
